UP HATHERLEY PARISH COUNCIL UPDATE

Replanting is now complete at the Cold Pool Lane. Hatherley Road, Up Hatherley Way roundabout with the Raywood Ash brought down by the fierce storm last Autumn now replaced with an Oak. In other Highways news our VAS (speed sign) has recently been deployed on the Hatherley Road near Heron Close detecting about 4000 vehicles per week exceeding the 30mph limit. Something I’m sure the residents of that area will not be surprised about. This large figure will be passed on to the County Highways team and hopefully the fact that drivers are reminded of the speed limit by the sign flashing will act as a reminder to slow down at that point and also in any future use of that stretch of road.

We held 2 very successful community safety events last year both of which have stressed the advantages of Neighbourhood Watch schemes and following those events 10 new schemes are now in place in our Parish, but we are not resting on our laurels and have organised a further event focussing on the new areas in our Parish (but open to all). It is scheduled for 10th April at the Village Hall. The bicycle marking event held just after Christmas was also very successful with over 100 bikes presented for marking, more than for any other such event held in the County.

The Parish Council runs two major community events over the summer. Firstly, the very popular Garden Competition. Details and entry forms can be found on our website www.uphatherleyparish.co.uk. Judging takes place from 8th to 15th June and the prizegiving evening at Manor by the Lake is on 8th July. All participants are welcome. Before that our annual Boundary Walk will start from the village hall on Saturday 11th May at 2.00pm. Tea and cakes back at the Hall at the end of the walk.

We believe that there has finally been some progress with the ‘new’ sports field on Cold Pool Lane (the replacement for the lost facility when the estate on the opposite side of Cold Pool Lane was built). We understand that an agreement has now been signed between Tewkesbury Borough Council and a local sports club who we hope will soon be able to bring it into use.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Tuesday May 7th 2019 at 7.30pm in the Village Hall, Cold Pool Lane
