Iain Willox remembered
Up Hatherley Parish Council
I am sad to report that Iain Willox, one of Up Hatherley's great characters. passed away this week.
Iain joined the Parish Council not long after he moved to Up Hatherley and served as a councillor from 1987 to 1998. He was Vice Chairman from 1993 to 1995 and also served as the Chairman of the Community Centre working group when the Parish Council were hoping to save the old school building on Hatherley Lane and bring it into Community Use (it was sadly demolished and the site redeveloped into flats).Following this campaign, Iain was one of the leaders in the establishment of Hillview Community Centre.
However, what Iain will most of all be remembered for was that he was a proud Scotsman and a keen Bagpipes player and a member of the St Andrews pipe band. Just about every social occasion in the Parish from the mid 1980s through to the early 2000s, Iian would be there in his kilt and would pipe for the occasion. I hope you enjoy this collection of photographs (with thanks to Adrian Bamford and David Reynolds for sharing the photos with me).
Our deepest sympathies to Edna and the rest of Iain's family.
